The driver of a car involved in a crash that claimed the life of a woman in Karaka last month now faces a charge of murder.

Tony Worrell, 49, has already appeared in court charged with assaulting the victim, Katie Powles.

Police say the crash was deliberate and he will face a charge of murder when he appears in Manukau District Court on Wednesday.

He is also charged with the attempted murder of Brett Stuart Robinson, who was injured in another vehicle involved in the crash. In addition, there are six further charges of using the car as a weapon.

Mr Worrell is to appeal on Friday against a ruling to keep him in custody.
