Severe weather forecast for north and south

10:12 pm on 31 May 2015

MetService has issued a severe weather watch in place for much of the North Island and parts of the South Island.

It covers the North Island as far south as Taranaki, and Marlborough, Nelson and Buller in the South Island.

It is forecasting bursts of localised heavy, possibly thundery rain, some of it well into Tuesday.

MetService says it is likely that the situation in the upper North Island will be upgraded to a full warning, and further areas could be added to this watch.
