The New Zealand family of the murdered businessman Robert Ellis are upset that his Balinese wife, who plotted the killing, was given a light sentence of just 12 years.

Noor Ellis was today sentenced in a Denpasar court over the killing of her husband of 25 years. She is expected to be released in five years.

She was found guilty of ordering her maid's boyfriend to slash his throat last year.

Mr Ellis was a New Zealander who had been based in Australia.

His son from his first marriage, Kelvin Ellis, said the sentence was a disgraceful outcome.

He said given the brutality, greed and damage done by the crime itself, the family had hoped for at least 20 years to life for the murder.
