Jerry Collins funeral in home town today

9:56 am on 17 June 2015

The funeral for former All Black Jerry Collins will be held this morning in Porirua.

Collins, who was 34, was killed along with his partner Alana Madill in a car crash in France earlier this month.

Their baby Ayla is still being treated in a French hospital.

Today's funeral, which begins at 10am, will take place at Te Rauparaha Arena, and members of the public are welcome to attend.

The president of Norths Rugby Club - Collins former club - told Morning Report that today would be tough for everyone.

"This is saying goodbye to Jerry for the final time - its just unreal," said Ron Wood.

The Transport Agency has advised those attending the service to consider taking public transport as the roads were expected to be busy.

The agency also said it had suspended roadworks today along Mana Esplanade because of the service.
