A boat with newspaper photographers and television camera operators on board capsized at Lake Karapiro in Waikato on Tuesday afternoon.
No one was hurt, although equipment belonging to the media contingent was damaged.
They were shooting footage of rowing twins Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell before the pair fly to Beijing for the Olympics.
Crew members climbed on to the overturned hull while they waited to be rescued.
Police in Cambridge say they did not receive any emergency calls about the capsizing.
