Police warning over Christchurch intruder

12:55 pm on 28 July 2008

Christchurch police investigating an assault on a woman in her 60s have established that there had been similar incident about a week earlier, and are warning the intruder may strike again.

The woman was asleep when an intruder entered her Avonhead home about 1.30am last Wednesday, and demanded cash.

She received moderate cuts and bruising to her face before the intruder escaped with $90 in cash. He also stole the woman's cordless phone to prevent her calling police.

The intruder had a weapon, though police are not saying what it was.

They say a similar burglary took place in the area about a week earlier, and are urging people to make sure their homes are secure, as the intruder may strike again.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen a Uniden phone without a base to contact them.
