No paper today

4:29 pm on 29 July 2008

About 27,000 subscribers of the daily newspaper in Wellington are without a paper on Tuesday because of a major printing problem.

The plant in Petone where The Dominion Post is printed, recently had an $8 million upgrade.

Dominion Post general manager Paul Elenio says a technical problem meant it was impossible to have the paper printed ready for delivery by the usual time of 4.30am.

It was still printing at 9am on Tuesday, but many contractors were no longer available to deliver newspapers.

Only subscribers south of the Kapiti coast were affected.

Mr Elenio says the paper had experienced a number of technical problems at the printing plant recently.
