A childcare centre is reviewing its safety measures after two preschoolers managed to open an emergency exit and wander off across a four-lane road.
The pair unlatched the bolts to a gate at The CubbyHouse in Palmerston North and crossed Pioneer Highway.
They were found in the car park of a shopping centre 300 metres down the road a few minutes later.
Simon Pervan, who owns The CubbyHouse, said he was shocked and surprised the children reached the bolts, and the centre would be reviewing its safety measures.
The Ministry of Education is investigating and has met with the centre's owners.
