A woman will appear in the Hastings District Court on Thursday charged with murder.
Early last week the police received a call that a man was lying unconscious outside a house in the suburb of Flaxmere.
He was pronounced dead when ambulance staff arrived.
A post mortem showed the man, 31, died from a stab wound.
After interviewing a number of people at the house, police arrested a woman, 22, who lived there and charged her with assault.
The charge is now upgraded to murder.
