Teacher spat in disabled child's face

4:00 pm on 24 September 2015

A teacher who spat in the face of a disabled five-year-old boy has been censured but will be allowed to return to teaching if she attends anger management training.

The teachers' disciplinary tribunal has censured Marion Johnson for serious misconduct and suspended her until she completes the training.

Its decision said Ms Johnson held the boy down and spat in his face after he spat at her at Mt Richmond Special School in Auckland last year.

It said her actions were violent and almost inevitably had an adverse effect on the child, who has Down's syndrome.
