A weekend crackdown on drink drivers in the North Shore of Auckland caught 78 people who were over the limit.

More than 7000 cars were stopped at several locations between Friday night and Sunday morning. The checkpoints coincided with the closing time of bars.

Police say 13 of those who tested positive were teenagers; 21 people were arrested and 20 licences were suspended. A total of 32 cars were impounded.
