Statistics New Zealand says people have consumed 143 percent more in June this year, than in June 2013.

In June, 84,000 terrabytes of data was consumed, the equivalent of each household watching around 27 hours of on-demand TV each week.

Households used the vast majority of it - over 90 percent of the data.

Statistics New Zealand has put a lot of it down to people having more options for streaming movies and TV online.

The figures did not include data used by mobile phones.
