University students unhappy at hostel conditions

12:37 pm on 22 August 2008

Victoria University students in Wellington protested on Friday morning at what they claim are substandard hostel conditions.

Students in McKenzies Apartments and Cumberland House say they're sick of poor living conditions and continuous construction noise.

A hostel resident says they are paying about $250 a week, including meals, to live there.

The students protested outside the Willis Street hostels and at Victoria University.

A spokesperson for the building's owner says they are sorry for the disruption that has been caused.
