"Donut" van allowed to stay - for now

Christchurch City Council is allowing a "donut" van to continue to do business in the central city.

The "Mini Donuts" van has been a fixture in Cashel Street for 35 years.

But a change of council rules will see all temporary vendors, such as food vans, removed from the central city.

Owner Darryl Duncan says he received a phone call on Thursday night from Mayor Bob Parker telling him he could remain in business until August 2009.

Then, he can make a submission to the council when the street vendor policy is reviewed.
