Checkpoint with John Campbell is on its way

The studio desk is still cardboard, there are a lot of cables to trip over, and there are engineers everywhere, but the studio for Checkpoint with John Campbell is shaping up.

Radio New Zealand's new show will begin in a few weeks, and feature 'visual journalism,' a new venture for the public broadcaster.

"It is still Radio New Zealand, it's really important people understand that," John Campbell said. "You'll be able to listen to us, and watch us too. So it will be Radio New Zealand. But you can see us as we make it.

"It's very simple... it's not television as we know it."

Old fans of Checkpoint don't need to worry about losing what they love - there'll simply be more of it, and more ways to enjoy it.

"If you listen to Checkpoint now, it's going to sound pretty similar to the way it always has. Radio. But, if you want, there are three cameras in here... you'll be able to watch us make it."
