Flooding and land slips from heavy rain are causing road closures on State Highway One in the upper South Island on Monday morning.
Police are advising motorists travelling between Christchurch and Blenheim to expect delays.
The slips are around the Domett, Cheviot and Kaikoura areas.
Further south: there is snow and a low avalanche warning on State Highway 94 between Te Anau and Milford Sound. Drivers are advised to use chains when driving over the Crown Range.
