NZ Herald

The paper says teachers want to cut the number of tests in high school exams because they say the system is too demanding for students trying to get the first level. The New Zealand Herald also says suspended Foreign Minister Winston Peters will be fighting for his political life at Parliament's privileges committee on Thursday morning. The paper reports Auckland City Council officers are working on ways to stop the homeless sleeping rough on city streets.

Dominion Post

The Dominion Post says Wellington is set to be named as the venue for two quarterfinals at the 2011 Rugby World Cup. The paper also features problems at Wellington Hospital's emergency department where a major influx of patients means people are waiting many hours to be treated. The paper also says New Zealand First could face a police investigation after a Spencer Trust administrator said the fund made donations in 2007 which should have been declared, and which fall inside the time limit for prosecution.

The Press

The paper also leads with the Rugby World Cup announcement, saying Christchurch is expected to be named as a venue for the two other quarter-finals in a move tipped to be worth $50 million in revenue for the city. The Press also covers the leak of toxic fumes from a building in Addington which left 11 people needing medical treatment yesterday. The paper says a showdown could be looming between New Zealand First leader Winston Peters and his wealthy donor, expatriate Owen Glenn, who may return to New Zealand to give evidence to Parliament's privileges committee.

Otago Daily Times

The paper leads with the widow of a man who died at Dunedin Hospital who wants justice after what she thinks were mistakes in her husband's treatment. The Otago Daily Times also features the latest Defence Force annual report which highlights problems for all three services. The paper also says Dunedin's newly opened Chinese garden has more than doubled its expected income since opening, averaging over 2000 dollars a day.
