Crimestoppers tip-off prompts raids

10:04 pm on 19 March 2010

Armed police raids on three homes in Auckland netted stolen property worth $15,000, a gun and drugs.

An anonymous tip-off via the hotline Crimestoppers prompted the raids in Papakura and Takanini on Wednesday.

Twenty police officers, as well as members of the Auckland armed offenders squad, carried out the raid.

Police say they discovered cannabis, methamphetamine and chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine.

They also seized a loaded pistol, ammunition and cash.

Police say the homes have links to an organised crime group.

Two Papakura women in their early 40s were to face drugs charges.
