Buckland Beach slip becoming more unstable

5:11 pm on 9 September 2008

Manukau City Council says significant new cracks have appeared on land next to a falling cliff in east Auckland, which it says indicates substantial new movement.

Nine houses have been evacuated on Clovelly Road in the suburb of Bucklands Beach, with a major fall on the cliff face expected at any time.

The council says rocks on the foreshore are also cracking and fracturing with visible movement, and people wandering in the area are putting their lives at risk.
