A former Inland Revenue employee is facing a corruption charge after an incident involving a Chinese business couple.

The man, 32, will appear in court in Wellington on Wednesday after the Solicitor General gave approval for him to be charged with corruption under Section 105 of the Crimes Act.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darrin Thomson says a complaint was lodged by a Chinese business couple in early July through their lawyer.

The man initially faced a charge of demanding with intent to steal before the charge was upgraded.
