Body is that of missing fisherman

The police say a body found yesterday on Rakino Island in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf is that of missing fisherman Michael Shaw.

Mr Shaw had been missing since Sunday afternoon when the boat he and a friend were fishing from capsized and sank.

It's thought the boat leaked before being swamped by a wave.

A crew from the Auckland police maritime unit began searching along the shorelines of Browns and Motuihe islands again on Tuesday.

Police say Mr Shaw, of Ramarama, had been fishing with a friend when a wave swamped the boat.

The friend was rescued alive after he swam to shore.

Both men were wearing lifejackets, but police believe their vessel sank too fast for them to contact rescue services.
