A helicopter pilot has been injured after his machine crashed on farmland in Hawke's Bay on Monday afternoon.
The extent of injuries to the 49-year-old pilot, the only one on board, are unknown, but he has been talking to rescuers and has been flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital.
The helicopter was being used for spraying and failed to return from a 12-minute spraying run over a farm at Puketitiri, 55 kilometres north of Napier.
Police say initial indications suggest the helicopter may have clipped power lines.
The machine was found near an estuary.
