Four households near unstable cliff allowed back home

Four Auckland households evacuated as a precautionary measure because of a sliding cliff face have been allowed to return to their properties.

Manukau City Council says the residents were asked to seek independent advice that their properties were not at risk.

The council expects that the cliff in Bucklands Beach will fall at any time, and five other houses on Clovelly Road remain evacuated, including the condemned home of the former Manukau mayor Sir Barry Curtis.

The council says there is still a risk to the wider public, especially sightseers below the cliff.
