Taranaki teacher accused of sex assaults on girls

A Taranaki high school teacher has been charged with indecently assaulting two students.

Ludovicus Michael Stassen of Lepperton, 62, faces three charges for alleged assaults on a 13-year-old girl last week and a girl, aged 14, in October 2006.

Mr Stassen has been teaching music to Year 9 and 10 students at Stratford High School.

The Crown told the Hawera District Court that his employment is in jeopardy with a suspension process under way.

Judge Allan Roberts denied an application for name suppression by the defence, saying there was no reason to expect the complainants could be identified by publicity over the charges.

Mr Stassen is on bail under conditions, including a ban on returning to the school.
