Sea Shepherd has asked for help from New Zealand or Australia to find out where the Japanese whaling fleet is operating.

Last month, RNZ reported that Japan had outwitted Sea Shepherd by expanding its whaling area at a time when its opponents' resources were stretched.

A Sea Shepherd spokesperson said the area was so vast it might not have the operating range to take action.

New Zealand or Australia should send a ship to intercept the Japanese fleet, the spokesperson said.

Failing that, the two countries could provide the exact coordinates of the whaling fleet so the organisation could mount a protest.
