5:59 am on 6 April 2010

Police in Scotland have named a New Zealand man who went missing in his kayak off the Shetland Isles last week as Kester Wigram.

Mr Wigram, 51, was originally from Wellington. He had lived in the Shetlands for more than 10 years.

He was last seen outside a shop on the island on Thursday morning before setting off in his red craft from the beach.

An extensive search, involving Shetland's two lifeboats, the coastguard rescue helicopter and coastal search teams failed to find him. Some wreckedage has been found.

Teams are continuing to search the coastline on foot.
