The University of Waikato has temporarily removed a thesis from its website to investigate the contents.
The thesis, focusing on neo-nazism and satanism, was written for a Masters degree in religious studies.
Its removal from the website follows a complaint from a former secretary of the National Front, Kerry Bolton.
He says the work is libellous and claims its research and analysis are fraught with errors.
Mr Bolton says he has been involved with some right wing organisations, but is a radical conservative rather than a neo-nazi.
