The Broadcasting Standards Authority has declined to uphold a complaint that usage of the phrase "pommy git" by a radio host was derogatory and racist.

David Foreman from Hamilton made the complaint after an interview on the Farming Show on Radio Sport last October.

The station's owner, The Radio Network, argued the word "pommy" is commonly used to describe the English.

The authority says it has determined in previous decisions that the word "pom" is not discriminatory.

It says it does not consider the phrase "pommy git" is likely to lead to discrimination.
