Norovirus outbreak not yet declared over

An Auckland retirement village hit by a fatal outbreak of norovirus will not be completely cleared of the virus for a few more days.

Two people died at St Andrews Village in Glendowie, and 23 people, including staff, have contracted the highly infectious illness.

However, there have been no new cases reported since Friday.

Auckland medical officer of health Greg Simmons says six days usually have to pass without any fresh reports of illness before an outbreak is declared over.
