Man jailed for serial skirt filming

A man who filmed up the skirts of 27 young women, shortly after finishing a home detention sentence for similar offending, has been jailed for a year.

The man, whose name is permanently suppressed because of his wife's health, was sentenced today in the Wellington District Court.

In July 2013 he was sentenced to 10 months' home detention for filming 94 videos up the skirts of 180 women.

Following that sentencing, he began a treatment programme run by Well-Stop, which provides assistance to sex offenders.

In February last year he began filming women again. At a meeting two days later with his wife and therapist he said he felt ready to end his treatment.

Judge Ian Mill said the man had abused the opportunity of treatment in the community and the public needed to be protected from him and his persistent offending.
