The National Patient Simulation Training Centre has taken delivery of a $35,000 bionic baby.
The centre, based at Wellington Hospital, says the female baby manikin breathes, moves and has a pulse. It can also have fits and stop breathing.
Director Brian Robinson says it's a high-tech medical simulator which will enable medical professionals to practice their skills for dealing with potentially life threatening situations for real newborn babies.
He says it's an invaluable tool for teaching and practicing which interventions to do - and when.
