Police have released the names of two divers who died at a Hawke's Bay beach.
Raymond John Cooper, 45, from Whakatu, got into difficulty in the water near the Pourerere Coast yesterday afternoon, and failed to resurface from a dive.
Emergency services were called at about 3.30pm and a few hours later police and search and rescue volunteers found a body.
Another man, Roger Francis Nathan, 44, from Waipukurau, went into the sea in an attempt to help Mr Cooper, but also died.
Police said he was not part of the official search and rescue party.
