Man with gunshot wound won't talk to police

A Tauranga man who suffered gunshot wounds is refusing to co-operate with police.

The 22-year old arrived at Tauranga Hospital at 6.30pm yesterday with a wound from a point-22 calibre rifle.

He underwent surgery and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said his refusal to co-operate is hampering the investigation and police have not established where the shooting took place.

"Obviously [we're] deeply concerned this occurs in our community and [we] would urge any member of the public who may have any information whatsoever to make contact with us."

Detective Senior Sergeant Turner said the injured man was known to police.

It was too early to say whether the shooting is gang related, he said.
