Akl Police crack down on dangerous driving

9:27 am on 7 July 2016

The police are targeting Auckland motorists today in a major operation to crackdown on dangerous driving.

More than one hundred officers will be out on the roads, and Senior Sergeant Matt Knowlsely told Morning Report they are looking for drivers using their phones, not wearing seat belts, running red lights, speeding, or driving drunk or on drugs.

"We're saying 'hey look, these things, if you take care of them you will help to reduce trauma on our roads'.

"That is why we are doing that, we're not making a secret of it."

Police wanted to be visible and get the safe driving message out to people rather than waiting for a public holiday, he said.
