Search continues for killer of teen in Kerikeri

Police went door-to-door in Kerikeri on Wednesday looking for information that could help them find the killer of a teenager.

The body of Liberty Rose Templeman, 15, was found about 5.30pm on Sunday in an overgrown orchard near her former school.

She was reported missing on Saturday after failing to meet a friend.

Miss Templeman was a student at Kerikeri High School until a fortnight ago when she moved to Auckland with her parents.

She was back in Kerikeri for the weekend visiting friends.

A post-mortem has confirmed police are dealing with a homicide, but they have not revealed how Miss Templeman was killed.

Police spokesperson Sarah Kennett says police are still vitally interested in sightings of the girl at the weekend.

A police forensic team completed its scene examination in the orchard on Wednesday.

Kerikeri High School principal Elizabeth Forgie says teachers and counsellors are doing all they can to help students deal with their grief and shock.

However, she says the mood is sombre and anxious, and no-one's mind will be at ease until an arrest has been made.

For the time being, Mrs Forgie says pupils who are biking or walking to school in Kerikeri should do so in groups and stick to main roads.
