A man charged with murdering his older sister in Christchurch seven years ago, has been committed to stand trial.

Nola Doreen Billesdon, 77, died in 2001. Her brother Denis Kenny Billesdon, 71, was arrested and charged earlier this year.

Mr Billesdon and his wife had been caring for his sister, who had health problems.

A witness, Stuart Cameron Cowie, told the Christchurch District Court that nearly a year after the death, Mr Billesdon told him he had killed his sister.

He said Mr Billesdon was clinical, had no emotion, and demonstrated how he smothered her with a pillow.

Mr. Billesdon was remanded on bail to appear in court in December for a trial date to be set.
