Man remanded in custody after New Plymouth shooting

2:44 pm on 9 August 2016

The man arrested following a shooting in New Plymouth last night has chosen not to appear in court today and has been voluntarily remanded in custody.

Kerryn Tioro has been charged with unlawful possession of a shotgun, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and driving while disqualified.

The 43-year-old will reappear in the New Plymouth District Court on Thursday.

Mr Tioro's arrest followed a shooting yesterday in the suburb of Spotswood, in which a man suffered a serious gunshot wound to his leg.

The injured man is in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital.
