Shooting accused voluntarily remanded in custody

5:43 pm on 11 August 2016

The man arrested following a shooting in New Plymouth on Monday has chosen not to appear in court today - the second time since the incident - and has been voluntarily remanded in custody.

Kerryn Tioro is charged with unlawful possession of a shotgun, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and driving while disqualified.

The 43-year-old is due to reappear in the New Plymouth District Court on 25 August.

Mr Tioro's arrest followed a shooting early Monday evening in the suburb of Spotswood, in which a man suffered a serious leg injury.

He was transferred to Waikato Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition in the Higher Dependency Unit.
