Public help sought over old graves

The Transport Agency is asking people in Hawke's Bay to help solve the mystery of old graves on the route of a proposed extension of the Napier-Hastings expressway.

Some 33 graves were discovered in late August when engineers were conducting ground penetration radar surveys just south of Hastings.

Regional manager Rob Bramley says their manner of burial appears to be European, dating from the second half of the 1800s.

He says the agency would like to hear from anybody who thinks they may have useful information.
