A man has been sentenced to more than 11 years in jail for attempting to smuggle millions of dollars worth of drugs into the country.

Ting-Hsiu Chang, a 21-year old Taiwanese national, was sentenced in the Manukau District Court today.

He had earlier been found guilty in July of trying to smuggle 9.5kg of methamphetanine, or 'P', through Auckland International Airport in May last year.

The drugs had a street value of about $9.5 million and were concealed in the lining of four suitcases.

Chang's accomplice, Jen-Wei Chang, was sentenced to six years and 10 months in June, after entering an early guilty plea.
