Anti-tagger programme being expanded

6:09 am on 10 November 2008

Wellington City Council says a scheme to dob in taggers is working.

The programme has operated in Kilbirnie, Miramar, Island Bay and Khandallah, and is now moving into Tawa.

Those who tip-off community police officers to a tagger's identity are given $100.

CitiOperations manager, Mike Mendonca says more than 20 prolific taggers have been caught this year.

He says the cash payments have prevented damage which would have cost a lot of money to undo.

Local businesses are also being asked not to sell spray paint to young people.
