One person has been arrested over the stabbing of a man in the Hutt Valley.
Police said police were called just before midnight and a person said a man with a stab wound was in their yard in Wainuiomata.
The man was taken to hospital for surgery and is in a critical condition.
Police said one person had been charged with assault.
They were not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.
