Prime Minister John Key has announced Prince Charles will attend the wreath-laying ceremony at the New Zealand Battlefield Memorial at the Caterpillar Valley War Cemetery on 15 September.

The prince will be attending in his role as Field Marshal of the New Zealand Army.

Mr Key said the Prince of Wales had attended many commemorations for New Zealand during the World War I centenary period, including at Gallipoli last year.

The New Zealand Division sustained 8000 casualties, with 2111 of those dying.
