Promotion campaign planned for Queenstown

Queenstown is preparing to fight a downturn in the tourism industry with a $1 million media campaign.

Visitor numbers are expected to be down between 10% - 20% for summer.

Mayor Clive Geddes says a $1 million media campaign is being planned by Destination Queenstown to attract people next year.

He says they plan to target the domestic sector and Australia.

The business community asked for the money earlier this year, before the worst of the financial crisis. It won't be used to shore up the summer season.
