A man charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in Ashburton on Tuesday night has appeared in the Christchurch District Court.
Police were called to McDonald Street in the suburb of Netherby about 10.30pm, following reports a 25-year-old man had died of stab wounds.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested and appeared in court today. He has been granted interim name suppression.
He was remanded in custody until 4 October for a callover hearing. A decision will be made then on whether his name suppression will continue.
Police will be at the property today to examine the scene.
