Three people are in custody after they led police on a car chase in North Canterbury last night, which ended with their vehicle catching fire.
Police said they had to use road spikes to stop the stolen vehicle in Ohoka at about 11am last night.
The three occupants - two men and one woman - tried to run away, but were caught by police.
The vehicle then caught fire and the Fire Service were called to extinguish the blaze.
The trio are due to appear in court today.
