More than 50,000 fans have already signed up for tickets to the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The first phase of ticketing starts at 9am on Tuesday but eager fans from around the world have pre-registered their intention online.

Rugby World Cup general manager for marketing and communications Shane Harmon says 30,000 of the pre-registrations came from New Zealand.

The rest are from more than 100 different countries, with most coming from Britain, Australia, Ireland, France, the United States, South Africa and Canada.

Mr Harmon says the important thing to remember is that this is only the application phase and those who apply will have an equal chance to secure tickets.

Some 750,000 tickets are available in the first phase of ticketing and 1.65 million tickets available in total.
