Baby and child thrown from car in crash

A newborn and an eight-year-old are in a stable condition in hospital after the car they were in hit a stationary car in south Auckland, throwing them to the ground.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Favona Road in Mangere just after 2pm.

Police said the eight-year-old was badly hurt, while the baby suffered minor injuries.

They were both in Middlemore Hospital.

Three adults in the car were also checked by paramedics at the scene but did not require further treatment.

Favona Road was temporarily closed, but had since re-opened.

The Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
