Nelson council member accused of double dipping

4:10 pm on 19 November 2008

A Nelson City Council member accuses a colleague of double dipping, by retaining her role in Nelson while living and working in Auckland.

Councillor Ian Barker says Councillor Denise Henigan should not retain her $30,000 per year post as a Nelson City Council member while living and working outside the region.

Mr Barker says the community elected her to represent their views and she has not been attending meetings.

Ms Henigan acknowledges she has been absent for six meetings, but is complying with standing orders and will make more of an effort to commute to meetings next year.
