Dunedin trust names preferred contractor for stadium

The group behind plans for a new Dunedin stadium has announced Hawkins Construction is the preferred contractor to build the $188 million fully enclosed building.

The Carisbrook Stadium Trust says Dunedin City Council has endorsed its decision.

Trust chairman Malcolm Farry says work will be done with Hawkins to ensure that a maximum guaranteed price can be agreed for the construction of the stadium.

Mr Farry says tenders and prices will be sought from sub-contractors and suppliers, with a final construction tender lodged by the end of January.

The council will make a final decision on the planned stadium's fate on 2 February.
